hello,

I'm a canadian muslim, have a few sikh friends. Some times i detect they have a real hatred of islam. Just curious why so many sikh have such a negative attidtue towards islam, does it all stem from the mougal tyrants?
plus when we get into arguments, and when they are on the loosing side they tend to call me paki. Which i personally find a bit silly, and a low-budget insult. However what sparks intrest for me, is how insulted they become if they are called paki, and i dont think it has more to do with islam rather than any pakistani affiliations, since i dont have any. Is my judgement in this matter true?

my second question is about intoxicants such as alcoohol, and marijuana. And meat. My one sikh friend is very religous stays away from both of them, however other 3 are very open in their choices. However all 4 of them are very contened with the argument that alcohol and meat is allowed in sikhism, the irony is they reccomended me to visit this webpage inorder to raise my awareness on sikhism but what i found is quite the opposite to what they were saying. So my question is, are there Any LOOPHOLES in sikhism to drink, smoke marijuana or eat meat?

thats all for now,
take care.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. Resorting to name calling is very immature. It usually indicates, as you've guessed, that they don't have anything intelligent to say. It's like swearing -- when people have limited vocabularies, they use swear words. As for "loopholes" -- people of many religions can and often do rationalize their behavior and find ways to justify their choices. That doesn't make them right. Our Guru's were very clear about living a clean, healthy, pure, and righteous life. Each Sikh chooses how well or how badly he or she lives up to the "Rehit" (code of conduct). SP
