First off, I want to say that I greatly respect the opinions of the moderators - so many of their responses make so much sense to me, that I want to make sure that I can understand their reasoning when I don't fully agree with their statements.
I think that Simardeep has hit on some points that many of us have questioned while reading from the forum. I believe that everyone has the right to have their own beliefs - no one is here to "convert" anyone else. But, that being said, I still have a hard time believing that total vegetarianism is the only way to God. I do believe that excessive meat is a health hazard, and any health hazard will alter the mind and body and therefore will impede on one's success to meet Waheguru. Especially now, when there are so many alternatives to meat that provide the same nutrition. However, I do feel that if need be, if there is no other source of food, that meat would be ok, as many animals in nature are carnivores.
My question here is: although many of us feel that it is only halal meat that is designated as wrong to eat, is there anything that actually says meat, all meat, is wrong? You say that if we want to meet God, we should not eat meat. That is the view of many many Sikhs. I was wondering if it was actually Guru Ji who said that, or an interpretation of something else that we have made...?
I am very interested in this topic, as I wish to become Amritdhari one day, and am not a vegetarian ... I thank you for all of the time and love the moderators put into the forum.

There is a saying in America; "The Devil quotes scripture". It means that you can usually find something somewhere in scriptures to support your position, whatever it is. You will interepret things the way you want them to sound.
That is why I try to look at things through the laws of the universe. If someone is not a Sikh, I have to explain to them using logic and reason. I can't say "Guru-ji says" because it won't mean anything to them.
The law of Karma is that everything you do, think, and say will be multiplied TEN times and come back on you. To be liberated from the cycle of reincarnation you have to clear all the karma.
People eat meat because they want to, not because they have to. Killing and causing suffering to these advanced souls will create a lot of karma. When you eat an animal you take on it's karma and ego. Plants have no ego because they don't do anything, they don't move. If you don't mind being in the cycle of reincarnation, going through endless suffering, then go ahead and eat meat. The world won't end.
It is very hard to meditate when you eat meat, for various mental and physical reasons. Your mind will be very unsettled. If you are interested in advancing your own soul, then you must be interested in the rules of how to burn karma. First among those is to not cause suffering, but relieve it. A Sikh is always first to help in time of need.
Animals are very far advanced in the cycle of reincarnation, some of them will be human in their next life. It means their souls are very nearly human, and you are eating them!
