I was reading the Prosperity Paths newsletter and was confused by a particular article about "spiritual names". It was my understanding that our names are given by Guru Granth Saahib jee when we are born or when someone becomes a Sikh. According to the article, if I send a donation to Yogi Bhajan, he'll give me a "spiritual name". I was wondering how he could do this if he too is a Sikh of the guru. Or is he separate from us and so he's allowed to also give us "spritual" names. Just wondering because it's kinda confusing me.

Many people today have become Sikh's through the direction and inspiration of the Siri Singh Sahib ji. Recieving a name from a Saint of the Guru is an accepted practice.
When your parents give you a name, they are also choosing a name. They simply use the guideline of taking the first letter of the first word in the hukam they recieve. This is also acceptable.
