Sat Sri Akaal,

I am not a Sikh but am very interested in Sikhism. It enthuses me. I would like to know how Sikhism, as an integrated belief system, provides distinctive answers to the enduring questions of human existence, perhaps even specifically:
Why am I here? What is the purpose of birth, life and death? Where did I come from in the first place? Where did the universe come from? Why is there death, suffering and evil in the world?

I realise that in some ways this is a complex question which is not READILY answered, but anything, including references to passages of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, would help me greatly. Thankyou in advance,

The foundations of this teaching began with Guru Nanak Dev ji. He realized and taught that the One Creator created this entire creation.

We are a creation filled with the grace and consciousness of this perfect Creator. But, only a few rare ones know this.

This human birth is the result of lifetimes of longing. It is the highest and most exhaulted incarnation. The human can realize his source, God. "Man tu jot di saroop hai, apanaa muhl pachan". Still only a rare one knows this.

You are such a one whose soul has that longing. All that you seek lies within the Siri Guru Granth Sahib...it is the spiritual revelations of all the monotheistic masters of the 15th and 16th century's.

I reccomend that you do a 'Sehej Path'. This is a complete reading of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib in what ever time you choose. Get an English translation of the Guru. It will answer all your questions and give you the most deep understanding of life.
