Man Tan Tayra, Dhan bhi tayra - Oh Waheguru minds and bodies belong to you, as does all wealth

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Gur Pyareeo, Brothers & Sisters I unfortunately must ask for your advice on one more occasion.

I have been with my girlfriend for the last 2 years. Since she told her family about me they were very hostile towards her and threatened to disown due to the caste issue.
Her parents have not spoken to her for the last 8 months and she has almost lived as a ghost in her own house. We were hoping to get married towards the middle of 2005 but a major problem has arisen.

I have decided to embrace the Sikhi Saroop given to us by Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj. I have begun to grow Kes, I now wear a turban. I do my Nitnem daily and have stopped eating meat.
The issue does not however concern my loving Devotion for Sikhi, it is centred around the fact I have decided to keep Kes (change my appearance).
My family have said to me that I should shave my beard and even my mum keeps saying I should keep kes and wear a dastaar when I am married. No one supports my decision. I feel all my only spiritual strength is contained within Guru Gobind Singhs Chaupai Sahib the shabads I am constantly listening to. In each Ardas I offer myself to Waheguru.

I guess I need advice on how to cope with such a unanimous lack of support.
I believe that if I maintain my decision to become Gurmukh, then I will lose my girlfriend, my family will not feel the same about me and I will feel outcasted amongst all those around me. Gosh im only 23.

But the truth is I would never chose anyone within this earth over my love for Guruji. I am forever a sacrifice to our creator.
Baba ji Kirpa kare -

Please help if you can

(REPLY) Sat Nam. God bless you! You seem to be a brave and wise young man, and I salute you for your courage to live as Guru directed. Do you remember the story of the one lone Sikh who stood on the road and demanded a toll from the opposing army who wanted to pass through? You may be alone among your family and those around you, but believe me if you stick to your prinicples and your devotion to Guru, Guru will sustain you and you will be blessed a thousand fold. As you know, as true Sikhs of the Guru, there is no meaning, no reason to even consider "caste." Caste is something that sets up cultural barriers that have no place in a Sikh society, yet people stupidly cling to that horrible, divisive, outdated Hindu tradition. I hope and pray that you will continue to hold firm to your devotion and conviction and realize that one of the highest achievements for a human being is to sacrifice for ideals. Yes, it's possible you may have to suffer a lot, and maybe lose your girlfriend, but if she is worthy of you, then she will accept and support you in your choice to follow the Guru's teachings. My most loving prayers and wishes for you both! SP
