Sat sri akal, I have a question that I would love to have answered I do have a answer for this but I am not quite sure if I am correct or not. Talking to many girls who are part of the Sikh religion, they feel drinking alcohol is alright since all the men do?, then they say if they can (men) why cant we,isn't sikhy all about equality? thats what they say at the end of the discussion? Now, what I tell them is drinking alcohol or taking any intoxicant is against our religion, is this correct or is there something I am missing?

Drinking alcohol is forbidden for men as well as for women in the Rehit Maryada. There are 4 acts that will break your Amrit vows. One of them is taking drugs(not prescription) and drinking alcohol and smoking ciggarettes.

Alcohol consumption in Punjab is very high. There is the highest per capita incidence of alcoholism in Punjab. This is a social problem and not a spiritual practice.

Living according to the lifestyle of the Rehit Maryada, the Sikh lifestyle, is to live conscously and unaltered consciousness from intoxicants. This is equally true for Sikh men as well as Sikh Women.
