Summary of Question: | Use Of Clan Names |

Is it correct that as Sikhs, we should not attached a tag or clan name like Randhawa for instance after his name of Singh ?.
We started to use ours when my 4 daughters were born and apart from using "Kaur", their surname would have been "Singh", which I thought was inapproriate for a girl hence the use of our clan name (if that is a correct definition). I only recently came across this when reading a book on "Introducing Sikhism" by Surjan Singh.
Am I right is doing this though it was never intended to be anything else other than using it as our surname for legal purposes.
Thank you for your advise.

Greetings and blessings to you in the Name of God and Guru. You daughters can alays be known as "_______ Kaur Singh". Or as you have attached your "family" surname, as we know it in the West, you are not using it as a caste distinction. When your children take Amrit, they can take on the Name of Khalsa if the Randhawa gets in the way.
God bless you, SKKK
