Sat Siri Akaal. In some Sikh families, there is a celebration when a young man first ties a real turban, not just patka. Just as many folks do not celebrate at all, and I know many converts to Sikhism who simply 'do it.'
So, if your family wants to celebrate, that's fine. Otherwise, tie away.

(ADDITIONAL REPLY) Sat Nam! Congratulations on being ready to wear the crown of a Sikh! I just want to mention that I object when anyone refers to people who have adopted the Sikh faith ( those who were not born to Sikh parents) as haveing "converted." Conversion implied someone pressuring you into changing your religion. That is never the case! Thousands of us who were not born and raised as Sikhs have made the decision to follow the teachings of our Guru, take Amrit, and wear bana because that our soul has recognized that is where we belong, that is our true identity!
