There are times when even the most "adult" and prideful among us need a good talking-to, and a swift kick in the keister when one comes close to losing it.

Dear friend and teacher "SP," thank you for giving me that swift kick.

My husband and I had the same discussion regarding the aftermath of putting our cat down, before I got to read your response. You're both right. Believe me when I tell you I would not have done that creature harm, nor let him live in suffering; to have done so would be, to me, no better than the Hitler who kept my father prisoner during the war. Worse, because a man can fight back where the small creatures have no one but us to do for them and speak for them. Yeah, I was overcome with the grieving, and you were right about it. I needed someone to shake the stupid out of me so i could see what I was not only doing to myself, but to my boy.

Many thanks to you. There are those who write to gripe about the answers they get, but to you I'm indebted. Blessed be.
