Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!!
May God bless you and help you remain at the Guru's feet learning and loving as all Sikhs should.
I am doing a report for my Business & Technical Communications Class. I have handed in an Informative Report detailing how Sikhism will change my life and what the problems are (in changing my lifestyle, etc.).
Now I must hand in a report detailing solutions to my problems which include some of the following: (please note I know meat is not a required exemption from a Sikh's diet but in my opinion it's wrong to eat meat).
1) Living in a society where alcohol and meat are so readily available and accepted and being in a family and social circle that accepts alcohol as "a normal drink" and meat as a "normal food."
2) Living in a society where getting a haircut is almost required if you don't want to be labelled anything outrageous.
3) Combatting and beating the five evils of Sikhism while facing discouraging comments from almost everywhere.
4) Not being able to break off the very hands with which reporters write articles to misrepresent and humiliate our community.
How do you suggest I battle these problems and how should I explain this battle to my professor who is not a Sikh or of Indian or Sikh descent.
Stay in Chardi Kalaa.
I wish you all the qualities and blessings of a Khalsa.
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!!

Greetings to you in the Name of God the light of every soul and in the Name of Guru the life of every Sikh.
I would suggest that you explain the Rehit Marayada as a code of living that takes the place of the emptiness of actions that have no enrichment value other than momentary pleasure or at the expense of future good feelings and health. This would cover to name a few, ciggarette smoking, alcohol consumption, casual sex, eating animals at the expense of the grain shortage that it causes for human consumption. Go step by step and explain the technological benefit of each Kaka and each aspect of the Rehit and how the rehit strengthens the practitioner to a live in balance with the earth and all creation's values of goodness and conservation....in a group support system, Sadh Sangat, free kitchen(community langar, Pangat).
Because the world and it's values are in such a difficult condition people would benefit from a deeper and more enlightened way of living that gives back to the earth and society.
Point out the closing of the daily prayer done in every Sikh Gurdwara and home....Wishing well to all..."Nanak naam chardi kala tere bane sarbat dabala" Through Guru Nanak may your Name forever increase and may your spirit be exaulted and may all people prosper by Thy Grace"
