I have a gutkas and Guru Granth Sahib with english translations. I like to recite the verses in english translations. I find if I understand what I am reading it is better than me reading it in punjabi. What do you think?

(REPLY) Sat Nam. Best is if you can read in Gurumukhi (the original is not in Punjabi, but in the sacred language from "the Guru's mouth" called Gurumukhi) while understanding what you are reading! If you read sometimes in English and sometimes in Gurumukhi, eventually while reading in Gurumukhi (which gives you the direct experience of the sound current as spoken by Guru Nanak himself!) you will know what the words mean. There is a power and a direct blessing in the Shabd of Japji Sahib. It is wonderful to understand what Guru is teaching in Japji, so I hope you will pursue the STUDY of this remarkable gift provided by Guru Nanak. Remember, translations vary, so ultimately, best if you do your own interpretation,as your heart and mind are filled with the wisdom of the Guru.
