Summary of Question:	Golden temple gold?

Is the Golden Temple really made out of real gold, or is it just a gold covered plate?

I ask because when i went to see it, i felt it and it did not feel like real gold. Infact it felt more like metal.
Any thoughts?

It is real gold. I have seen the smiths at the Golden Temple actually taking gold leaf (tiny thin sheets of gold) combining it with mercury to adhere it in many many layers. In this way huge pieces of the gold sheeting are fashioned into the design that you see on the sides of Darbar Sahib. Then these sheets of gold are attached to the building.
