Summary of Question:Organ donation

Hi

I am considering becoming an organ donor. However, after a discussion with some older members of my family I have been informed that this goes against the teachings of Sikhism. I have been told that it has ben said that organs are not ours to give and that if we do such things in this life then it is likely that we will suffer as a consequence in our next life.

Could you please clarify what the situation is on this subject. Although I have a great deal of respect for my elders I question how much of what they say is based on myth and how much on actual teachings.

Look forward to a response.

When you die, you are finished with your physical body. Whatever is not used should be cremated.

What you decide is your personal choice. You should make out a "last will and Testament" for yourself and for your property.

This is not really so much a matter of Sikhee. When you help people, when you give and serve, that goodness and giving is returned to you tenfold.

Manni
