Summary of Question:Rehat Marayada - Kachera
Category:General Sikhism
Date Posted:Tuesday, 8/15/2000 3:25 AM MDT

Is the Kachera not the same as wearing 'western' style underwear which are like shorts?

What is the difference, is there a significant reason?

Thank you.

Guru Rakha!

Kacheras should be loose around the groin and thighs, but fairly tight around the leg just above the knee. This creates a pocket of air in the kacheras that is important for temperature regulation. You will gain the maximum benefit from kacheras by wearing traditional Indian-style kacheras rather than western-style boxer shorts or boxer-style underwear.

Humbly,
Mangala Sadhu Sangeet Singh Khalsa
