I am just al little but confused about the following thing: can u read the guru granth sahib if u are a sahajdhari sikh? It's just that someone told me that you can only read the guru granth sahib if u are an amritdhari sikh....but my father is telling me that isn't neccesary to be an amrit sikh if u wants to read the guru granth sahib.

Sat Siri Akaal. Why would any Sikh want to limit someone's access to SGGS????? Of course a sahajdhari Sikh or anyone else for that matter can read from SGGS as long as they cover their heads, take off their shoes, and show respect. On the other hand, the entire SGGS is on the web and those wishing to look at it who are not Sikh can see it/read it at their desks! So you see how ridiculous this 'rule' is. Our sangat has weekly Akhand Paaths and we allow anyone, Sikh or non, who wishes to be part of that sound current vibration to read. It would not be in accord with Sikhi to insist that readers be only Amritdhari because we would be DENYING members of our larger community access to Shabd Guru!!!
The person may have meant that only an Amritdhari Sikh can read a hukum in Gurdwara. Even this is not true. There are those who insist on it in their gurdwara services, but it is not something that can be practically required in every gurdwara in the world. Please go ahead and read and study SGGS to your heart's content!
