The main concern for a Sikhi parent now a days is 'why does my child not want to sit in a gurdwara and list to the Granthi?'

Parents need to see that the Granthis in the Gurdwara need to be aware that their sort of punjabi does not go in the childs head. They need to speak at a type of language where the kids of this generation can understand. I know, because the Granthis in my community have come to understand this. Even though it took them a long time to notice this. I just put myself in the position of eventually listening to them from beginning to end-even thought I wanted to be outside with my other friends, but I disciplined myself to stay and stay seated. I now know a little bit of the things they talk about when giving lectures or shabads or just simple stories to the sagath. Over the years, jsut becuz I was alble to understand the Granthi-I became more and more involved in my culture and ask questions about it left and right from the right to wrong.
I just hope sooner or later some1 would notice this and make a change so that the generations of this time does not go away from sikhism or the daughters go off with muslims or anything inthat nature.
Lets step up and stop the wrong doing of the people that did wrong to an innocent young sikh girl and be proud to be called Sikhs.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. Thank you for your posting. Being able to communicate the teachings of our Gurus successfully and inspire others is a great art, and a great blessing for those who are privileged to listen to someone who knows how to tell the marvelous stories of Sikh history, and recount the bravery, loyalty, and devotion of our Gurus. You're right, of course, that people - even the young ones ! have to be willing to listen! It's been my observation that Gurdwara for some people is more of a social gathering than a place to meditate on God, chant shabds, and hear wisdom spoken. I was taught that it is a privilege to be in the "Darbar" -- for surely where the Guru is installed is a Royal Court, and so to enter with devotion and humility, and to be interested and grateful to receive in that sacred space can make all the difference in the world in what the person experiences. Thank you again for your comments. Blessings,SP
