To the great servants of the Guru, may you always remain in the Guru's feet in learning, loving and teaching, as all Khalsa should.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji KI Fateh !!!

WOW - you have really added "extra security" measures to MAKE SURE the questions aren't repeated! I think that's really awesome.

My question(s)... I looked for them and couldn't find exactly what I wanted, so please help me out...

I have been taking kirtan classes for about 5 months and I've noticed that the following words show up in several of the Gurbani Shabads.

Paar Brahim
Niranjan
Gurmukh
Suhelaa
Pooran
Bhagautee ("Var Sri Bhagautee Ji Ki Paatshain Dasveen" from the ardas)

Could you tell me what these words mean?

Now when you say Gurmukh, doesn't it mean somebody who follows the teachings of the Guru, versus a Manmukh, who follows the impulses of his mind? If so, what does MUKH mean?

Also - ONE MORE QUESTION!!!!

... my grandfather showed me a flower he grew in his garden. It commonly grows in Asia. It's called a "Kalga." He said it was what they named "Kalgi" after because a rooster has a "Kalgi" - the red part on his head which makes him look Royal. Could you please explain to me the full story behind this and how it became relevant to Sikhs?

Thank you very very much for all of your help.

God Bless You.

Stay In Chardi Kalaa!

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!!

Parabrahm---almighty God
Nirinjan--stainless without sin
Gurmukh--from the mouth of the Guru...a person who follows the Guru
Sohila-praise
Puran-ancient
Bagautee-primal power

Mukh---mouth or face

A kalgi is a royal decoration. I do not know of the story that you refer to.

God bless you and keep up your study. The Siri Guru Granth Sahib has been translated with each Gurmukhi word numbered to corresponding English words. It is by Manmohan Singh. This version is very helpful for learning the Gurmukhhi words and understanding the English translation. This edition is available in an 8 volume set. It is available from India in the Gurdwara's, or from gtent@newmexico.com.
