Being a Sikh in Western Society is a great challenge...as it is a challenge for anyone who isn't Christian or maybe Jewish in the West. But the West wouldn't be what it is without that diversity which it is known for. Living in the West is a wonderful opportunity to learn as much as you can about your Sikh heritage...for yourself and to represent Sikhs, like an embassador. People are generally curious. If you can answer people's quesions, they really appreciate it, and it can help to educate them, breaking misconceptions and prejudices. Prejudice is merely ignorance. Become learned about your heritage and then in a humble and kind way educate others, when they ask for it. You can also write articles and send them to local magazines or newspapers. Volunteer to speak at organizations...like churches, kiwanis groups, etc. Don't be a victim, but rather be pro-active...not a preachy evangalist, but a humble servant of the Guru for those who want to know. if you have children, volunteer to go into their schools and talk about Sikhism, bringing pictures, Indian food, Bangara Dancing, etc. Make it fun. Good luck and allow Guru to guide you. GTKK
