Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Yo, um my parents hate my attitude, that includes the way I walk, talk, dress, the western music I enjoy, and my idols. I'll tell you how I act. I dress like a mix of eminem and avril lavigne...pretty much the mc look, I always were my cap backwards, lots of hoodies and nikkies, sweat pants and track pants that are at least 3 times my size. The problem is that I am a girl...thats why they dont like the way I dress. My hair is always in my face, I never tie it up. I always use the "mc-like slang and sometimes i swear in poems but i never say it aloud. My fav artists are Avril Lavigne and Eminem. Both of them are my idols too. My parents hate it. I have my ears peirced 3 times at the lobe and one for cartilage, which they hate. My parents hate it and same with all my relatives. But the thing is people have this idea about eminem having music about sex and fantasies which is so far from the truth. For example the songs like "Lose Yourself", "8 Mile", "Sing for the Moment", "Cleanin Out my Closet" and a lot others my have swears but they are about oppurtunities and how you have to go after them, how people are so easily influenced and lots of good values which nobody realizes cause nobody dares to give this music an ear. The way I dress makes everyone despise me, they all have a stereotype of people that dress the way I do is for druggies and stuff. But the thing is everybody knows that I am an A student. I am always on the Top Class Honors every year. I never go less then 80% in each subject...I work so damn hard! I always get lecture and i wanna know how to change this indian stereotype my relatives have for me and the way i dress and everything withoput changing who I am.

(RELY) Sat Nam. Teenage rebellion is nothing new. Each generation tries something different to assert their independence. Unfortunately, the way in which you're expressing your need to "be who you are" is by masquerading as something you are not! One of the most precious possessions a woman has is her grace. Does that sound corny? Well, right now you're just a girl, but when you become a woman, you'll understand what I mean. Meanwhile I don't think you can change the "stereotype" that annoys you so much. I do think you might spend some time exploring who you REALLY are, on the inside, not the outward appearance, and that is by reading from Siri Guru Granth Sahib, reading the banis -- not as a ritual, but to understand the great wisdom and guidance we have been given by the Guru. Guru's words are truth that we can use to make our lives worthwhile, happy and productive, not just superficial. they are timeless and as relevant today as they were when they were written, for the Gurus understood the meaning of life, and the inevitability of death. If you really valued yourself, I think you'd be thinking what you want to achieve in your life, what are your goals, and how best to achieve them, and how to inspire other people, rather than trying to blend it with the popular stereotype of a rebel! You'll outgrow this phase, hopefully soon! Best wishes, and blessings to you!
