Summary of Question:	Bhatra Caste

I am a 29 year old man living in Birmingham. I am from the Bhatra Community. I find that alot of the Jat Community look down at me when I tell them which community I belong to. I explain the meaning of Vasakhi i.e that there are no castes and no-one is higher or lower than anyone else however I find trouble getting through to some people. I understand that the Bhatra community is the lowest thus I know why they resent me. However I also told them that if they believe in castes then they should convert to Hinduism. Is there anything you suggest.

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.
I cannot suggest much more than what you are already doing to combat this problem; I appreciate your responses as you described. You are right to remind people that they go against the teachings of ALL Sikh Gurus to regard themselves as better than you because of caste system; a system that is not even part of the national culture in which you and others are currently living!

I can suggest that you simply NOT tell anyone which caste you are from. While if they MUST know they will find out some other way, by refusing to answer a direct question in this regard, you go a step further in making caste a non-subject.

Meanwhile, remember you are Sikh of the Guru and wear the form of Guru Gobind Singh, and no matter what anyone thinks, you are equal in the eyes of God & Guru. Hold your head high and pray for your brothers & sisters who have forgotten the message of the Guru.
